Diepe, gloeiende robijn. In de neus bouwt het zich langzaam op, we ontdekken dieprode kersen, bosbessen, wat cederhout, grafiet en peper. Vervolgens is hij in de mond stevig en direct, en boeit hij onmiddellijk alle zintuigen met zijn peperige-zoute noot, gekoppeld aan een fruitcocktail en gepolijste tannines, wat de algemene indruk van een onnavolgbare complexiteit en originaliteit wekt. Het is een veeleisende wijn, die gegarandeerd een volledige toewijding beloont, en met een paar jaar flesrijping zal hij op indrukwekkende wijze zijn volledige spectrum laten zien. De Neri-typische mineraliteit in de afdronk is vooral opmerkelijk en bijna uniek in de 2015 editie!.
De 2015 jaargang is een unieke Brunello van Casanova di Neri omdat in de Brunello het fruit is gebruikt van de extreem fraaie wijngaarden van Brunelli Tenuta Nuova en Cerretalto. Dit is de eerste keer dat dit bij Casanova di Neri is gebeurd. Deze uitvoering heeft fraaie scores gekregen van 94/100 James Suckling en 94/100 Wine Advocate en heeft een drinkvenster tot zeker 2035.

"The Neri family has created a classic expression of Sangiovese from a classic vintage, while remaining faithful to the house style. In a nutshell, these wines always tend to offer dark plum, clove and fig confit over the tiny berry and blue flower aromas you get from the traditionalists. That said, this Brunello needs ample time to open, and I suggest you splash it into the decanter. The Casanova di Neri 2015 Brunello di Montalcino (this is the one with the white label) stays safely within your expectation of the vintage with its variety-driven aromas of wild berry, licorice, blue flower and balsam herb." There’s beauty and drinkability to this wine that really is enticing with blueberry and cherry aromas, as well as hints of hot stone and licorice. Medium to full body, integrated tannins and a fresh and polished finish. Shows focus and brightness. Very drinkable now, but better in a year or two."

The Casanova di Neri estate is located in the northeastern zone of Torrenieri. Besides five distinct sites there, the Neri family also has three vineyards in the south between the villages of Sant'Angelo in Colle and Castelnuovo dell'Abate. The 'white label' as this Brunello is called blends plots from the cooler Torrenieri area. It is mid-weight and classy, offering gleaming bright, fresh red cherry flavours. Hints of rust and warm stone as well as subtle sweet spice add complexity. Tactile but fine sandy tannins give appropriate support and the finish is vibrant and perfumed.

"The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino from Casanova di Neri is very pretty, showing bright cherry and strawberry tones, as red florals and dusty spices that rise up from the glass, with just a hint of forest floor. On the palate, silky textures give way to red berry fruits and sweet spices, given lift through vibrant acids, as saline-minerals and hints of fine tannin saturate the senses. It finishes long, juicy, and fresh, with savory spice and residual acids buzzing on the senses while dried red fruits and florals slowly fade. The 2015 Casanova di Neri doesn’t succeed through power; instead it’s a feminine beauty of a wine."
Tenuta Nuova, het nieuwe domein. Daar waar nooit een sangiovese-druif heeft gestaan plantte de familie Neri, visionair als ze zijn, na jaren onderzoek d e mooiste sangiovese grosso druiven. De ‘Le Cetine’ wijngaard op een heuvel ten zuiden van Montalcino is een unieke plek op 300 meter hoogte met een zuidelijke expositie. Omringd door mediterrane bossen en kruiden zorgt de wijngaard met een combinatie van kiezel, kalk en tufsteen voor een vrijwel perfecte waterhuishouding die de sangiovese optimaal laat groeien en bloeien. Het streven naar perfectie, de zoektocht naar het onmogelijke, de nieuwe wereld in klassiek traditioneel Italië. Het beste van alle werelden.
Al speelde Brunello in de jaren ’70 nauwelijks nog een rol van betekenis op het wereldtoneel, Giovanni Neri besloot om het grootste domein van Montalcino te kopen en er kwaliteitswijn te maken. Beetje bij beetje bouwde hij met (later) zoon Giacomo het domein op en tilden ze het naar het huidige iconische niveau. Met wijnen die faam hebben tot in de uiterste hoeken van de wereld. Kleinzoon (wederom) Giovanni staat nu met vader Giacomo aan het roer, om de perfectionistische koers vast te houden en het domein aan de top van het gebied te laten stralen. Dat ze met de tijd mee gaan, blijkt uit de onophoudelijk hoge scores wel.
